Preparing Students for Post-Secondary Success

Naviance Kickoff_10.16.10_080

Every student has the potential for post-secondary success. In alignment with the Stamford Public Education Foundation’s focus on preparing students for college and/or career training, a second year of funding from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation has allowed SPEF to continue to work with the Stamford Public Schools to increase the use of Naviance Family Connection throughout the district to inspire and guide students towards career and college readiness.

Used in 4,200 schools by 100,000 educators in 72 countries, Naviance Family Connection allows Stamford’s 5,000 high school students, their parents and guidance counselors to investigate, research, track and plan for the college admission process. Students are encouraged to complete grade-specific milestones to create resumes, complete online surveys, compare schools, sign up for college visits, manage deadlines and apply for local, state and national scholarships.

Because Naviance maps the GPA and SAT scores of each student against the entry level requirements of the colleges he or she is considering, students are able to assess the likelihood of being accepted by the colleges they wish to attend.

Naviance helps students, parents and guidance counselors keep track of college and scholarship application milestones during the high school years. By the middle of December, 2011, 35% of Stamford High and Westhill seniors and 49% of AITE seniors had submitted their college applications online using Naviance Family Connection. This saves the district valuable resources by reducing postage, supplies and staffing expenses.
